Hooky part one..

Crochet squares-WIP

I have been having fun with these over the weekend.
The pattern is taken from this month's Making magazine which is a crochet special which I happened upon while doing some completely unrelated shopping and couldn't resist!

They are unblocked so look a bit higgledy piggledy.

Making magazine and yarn

The blanket is called "double bed or sofa blanket" which does not really do it justice.
The squares are fairly straightforward but offer a great chance to use up some smaller ends of colour and I really like the petals. I went for grey instead of white as a border colour because nothing really stays white in this house for very long and grey is a bit more forgiving.

The yarn I used is stylecraft  double knit special.

More crochet to share soon...

A love of plants

cushion

I wanted to make a gift for a special person that I have worked with for over 10 years who is retiring soon. I have a feeling that she will not be keen on a big farewell but it was important for me to mark her going and give her something to show how much I have valued her support and friendship.
Over the years she has been exposed to my handmade things
with the odd lavender bag or scrunchie attached to a card!
We share a love of plants and growing, so that was the inspiration behind this cushion.

cushion detail

The main fabric is a Kaffe fassett favourite of mine called paperweight.
The others were bits of cotton and  linen from the scrap drawer.

Cushion

The applique flowers and seeds are cut from felt and the embroidery done using anchor threads.

Happy sewing.

Wrap skirt

surface art womens wrap skirt

I bought this surface art wrap skirt pattern a few months ago now but have only just got around to making it. The pattern came from The Drapery which is a gorgeous fabric shop in Australia whose blog I have followed since it was set up by Jane and Fiona. Their blog is on my list of regulars to visit and is full of inspiration and really useful trials of patterns which they share.
It is another place on my dream world sewing tour!!

I tried to get some outdoor pictures to share but as you can see above, it is a very blustery day again here in Cornwall so I had to move back indoors..

The skirt fabric is a navy linen but with some visible binding around the hem using an Amy Butler fabric called Hapi Glow Navy.

The pattern is very simple and easy to follow using a small tie  and a single button at the waist.
No zip or fiddly bits.

The waist edge has a facing which I matched to the binding, even  though no one else can see it!

Happy sewing.

Bits and bobs

It is a very blustery day here in Cornwall but there are bursts of sunshine between the hail showers and the rays are shining through the roof light here in my sewing space.

WIP- this year's peg bag

I have been cutting strips and rearranging them to find the colours for this year's peg bag which is sorely needed as the old one has fallen apart.

A little hooky

A little bit of hooky for decoration?

3 fruit marmalade

And some three fruit marmalade in the pan soaking away
until I can find 10 minutes to boil it up and whack it into jars!
Not made this one before so I will let you know how it goes.
