Baby Quilt and Big Sister Bunting

I did it!
I managed to finish the baby quilt yesterday and braved the icy winds to get some pictures.
This one is a present for a teacher.

I based the quilt around the lovely elephant fabric which came from Fabric Rehab.

The reverse is made from a flannelette sheet as usual.

The edge is bound with one and a half inch bias strips cut from some pale pink spotty fabric.

The Big Sister Bunting was made from some of the left over fabric and edged along the top with shop bought bias binding (2cm width).
As the name suggests, it's for the big sister so that the baby doesn't get all the presents. I think that this maybe something close to my own daughter's heart as she was the one who kindly suggested it!

And while I was making bunting I whipped up a second row for someone who had a 50th birthday this week because I think that no one is ever too old for bunting!
This time I used some cotton webbing just folded in half along the top and I like the effect and would definitely use it again. It was 2cm width which was just right.

Happy weekend.

More Hooky

A lovely sunny weekend here in Cornwall and time for hooky on the beach and sitting in the back garden....bliss.

I finished 6 triangles for Lucy's collection over at Attic24 and am awaiting the postage instructions.

Then as there was still more yarn (double knit special by Stylecraft) to use up I decided to have my very own little bit of mini bunting which is hanging by the window in my bit of loft space (previously known as the study but now definitely a sewing/crafting space).

Seen here outside on some handy scaffolding.

I think this bit of bunting will be coming camping this summer as it would look good on the tent don't you think?

And finally, again thanks to Lucy, I made a couple of these beauties.
They are Little Spring Mandala made from a tutorial by Barbara over at Made in K-Town here.

I have never really followed a tricky pattern like this, but after only one failed attempt (where I didn't count accurately and ended up with too many petals!), I managed to get it right.
It was incredibly satisfying.

So then I just had to make another!
Must go.

More pressies

Another busy week and luckily a bit of time for sewing.

I have made quite a few grain bags over the years both as presents and for us too.
Sometimes I just sew a bag out of cord or other strong fabric, fill it with grain and sew it up.

At other times, usually if it's for someone else, I use this pattern from Sew Mama Sew, as I did for
this one. The only difference is that I use wheat instead of rice.

Grain bag

I also finished some pink bunting for a 'box of pink' ..

And finally a little neck purse..

Off to do some more.
Happy weekend.

Phoebe fairy.

I made this bunting for my daughter's birthday.

006

I found a piece of material that I had saved.
It was a piece of her curtains made about 10 years ago now, and I managed to find three of the fairy heads to go on the bunting.

Phoebe was the one with the yellow dress and pink crown, who was also painted on her wall.

The badge this year was a sort of rabbity thing.

Bunting and blossom.

Bunting in the breeze

I have been making a bit of bunting for a present and finally the sun has come out again so I can show you the lovely apple blossom.

I used a mixture of recycled fabrics and new. Luckily I have a good supply of pink shirts (mentioning no names!), and they are perfect for this.
Above we have 5 shirts, 2 pillow cases and 5 new/stash fabrics.

Bunting and bluebells

The bluebells are lovely here at the moment.

curtain material

I bought this fabric today to make a curtain.
I was outside taking photos and happened to plonk the bunting down on the curtain fabric..

Curtain material and bunting

it all matched in remarkably well.
Funny how that happens.

Have a good weekend.
