Catching the setting sun on the new log pile

 

We have a new log pile ready for the winter and it is a great place to take photos in the evening light.

 

 

 

The liberated sampler is growing and I only have a few small pieces of the charm pack (Ten Little Things) left now so I am thinking a border of some sort.

 



 

The cushion that I started on holiday is finished and will be ready to warm a new home.

 

 

And finally a glasses case for a friend.

 

Leaving presents galore!

It has been a busy couple of weeks here with one thing and another.

My youngest is moving up to secondary school and there were alot of 'thank yous' to say. Instead of doing the sensible thing and going to buy a box of chocolates, I decided that they 'needed' to be hand made. And with only a week to go and three evenings out, that was a tall order. Does anyone else have these crazy ideas that seem good at the time?

Thankfully when friday morning arrived there was a good pile ready...

Unfortunately the rest of my little corner of roof space looked like a bomb had hit it!!

There were 8 thank you key rings..

3 glasses cases..

Three gathered clutches from the pattern by Noodlehead..

and a cushion..

And now I'm off to tidy up the debris and think about what to make next.

A case for my sunglasses

I got some new sunglasses last week and decided it was time to use a few nellies.

I have made a number of glasses cases over the years but the one I keep coming back to is an old favourite that lives in my car door. It doesn't look as neat as some of the others but it works and doesn't mind being chucked around.

I decided to try another one along similar lines.

I cut three rectangles roughly twice the size of the finished case (plus a bit to spare!).

I used the elephant fabric and a scrap of linen, a layer of wadding, and an inner layer of a recycled fleece jumper.

The three layers were quilted together..

trimmed down and the top edge bound ..

 

Then I folded it in half and sewed up the side and bottom (wrong sides together).

Sorry about the thumb but I tried to add it to the coleslaw earlier in the week!!

Finally I trimmed the seams and  bound the two unfinished edges with some scraps (cut into 1.5" strips sewn together).

I added a popper in the top.

The helianthemum is out.

Hellebores and Horner.

Hi.

I spent last weekend tidying my sewing space and it took longer than expected!

I am back now and it is a beautiful sunny spring day here.

I inherited quite a few hellebore plants in our garden and decided to put them all together under the Ash tree. They look so unexciting from above..

But underneath are hidden little gems..

I have just had a delivery of some fabric from Gone to Earth. It arrived very quickly and unfortunately the shirt pattern (ordered from another shop) took a bit longer so I am having to be patient.

The fabric is by Anna Maria Horner and I am really pleased with it.

Innocent crush First Impressions Fruit in cotton on the right, and Little Folks Voile Diamond mine Sky on the left. Shirts to follow!

I have jsut finished a couple of presents, another gathered clutch (pattern by Noodlehead here) although this one is a tad wonky but the recipient won't mind!

And a glasses case with birds..
