One skirt and two linings..

skirt

I am trying out a very old idea!
Instead of lining every skirt, I have made the latest one lining free and have made two separate linings or sort of petticoats.

The pattern was the same as for the skirt , New Look 6053 (used many times before), but for the linings I left off the facing and just put a binding on the top edge, a small opening in the back and a button to fasten it.

I realise this is not a new idea, in fact it's going back to how my Nan did it.
It may all go horribly wrong but I will let you know!!

The flowery blanket is coming on too and it is time to start joining it up and making some borders.
 I like this bit..

well that is after I have played with them and rearranged them a million times first!

Skirts for work.

New Look pattern 6053

I have made this pattern before here, so it was nice and easy to cut out two more skirts and they came together in no time.

The pattern is New Look 6053 and I made view E.
The only alteration is that I lined them with some lining material because I tend to wear them with tights and otherwise they stick!

New Look pattern 6053 made from needlecord

This first one is made from a patterned needlecord that I bought in Truro Fabrics a few weeks ago.
It was lovely to sew with and there is a strip left that I was wondering if it would make one of these.

The second skirt is made from a cotton batik fabric and I will try and get the details of the online shop although I picked it up at a local quilt exhibition.

Linen skirts

I really like wearing linen skirts and have a couple that I use on holiday that were shortened from old bias cut skirts that I have had for years.
I decided that I wanted some to wear for work and found this pattern by Newlook number 6053.
I made it first in black and used some bias binding that I found in Liberty's in London, to hem it. The binding didn't show but I new it was there.

Skirt number one from Newlook pattern 6053.

Then I decided to make a second skirt from the same pattern but this time put the bias binding on the outside and I love it!

Skirt number two made from Newlook pattern 6053 and hemmed using bias binding from Liberty

(The other rose patterned fabric is just the facing at the waist edge).

Our first Hollyhock came out this  week and I am hoping the others will flower next year aswell.
The colour is fantastic and the plants are made more special as the hanfull of seeds were pulled from some plants I admired, and  given to me by a very kind person.
